Memories

From my Facebook post.

Hey, Bobbie! Remember when the war was being planned and I said to anyone willing to listen that the day would come when Americans would all ask, “How did we get into this mess,” and I added, , “Just look into the mirror. That’s how.”?

I forgot to add, and we are being lied to by our leaders.

A war as pointless and unwinnable as Vietnam for many of the same reasons. This is why we “lost” China. I learned that when I was an undergrad, in the 60’s. The world is not full of middle class Americans who want exactly what we want.

L: yes indeed and on and on it goes... smh

  1. Wow, yes. That war is over 18 years old now. People are being deployed there who weren't yet born when it started. Can you imagine? I do recall your position on the war back at least when we'd talk about it forever ago.
The Pentagon "Papers" are painful and damning, but it also reflects what national security insiders have been talking about for nearly a decade. We've gotten out of the business where the goal is to win wars; in fact, they are unwinnable. Instead, we've adapted our military strategy to conflict management, where relative equilibrium equals winning. It rejects exits as a viable path.

    1. At least the British tried to hold onto their colonial empire to the bitter end. We seem entirely satisfied with telling ourselves that we’re winning.
